it was going to be a good day

Last day of teaching for week two. Gosh how time is flying by  here.
Off to the lucky boys football club.   This started off a to what seems a good day with all the s's going well. Till we get there and to cut a story short it takes an hour before I am aloud to start and this is only cause I put it to a do or die time, I.e we start or we go home and if we go we aren't coming back. I don't get paid for this and I'm getting offended that u won't let us start. ( mean while he laughs in my face !)  Prick!

They he tried to get on my good side with soda and sweet potato ... I'm saying to myself fuckkkk off.

The afternoon was brill, full class with everyone wanting to be involved and even had a bandaging race woooooo.  They then treated us to food. Even had grace said.  We had rice beans and porridge ... The porridge tasted like glue!  Ewwww

Ahh well The day is almost over  off to ruma tommorow  yeahhhhh  can't wait

Gifts for you all

Saturday has arrived. Buttt it's not our weekend yet. 4 sessions stand in the way!   So off we go to the Saturday morning at church :) where we had only 3 turn up .. But they where keen And they learnt so it made it worth it!

Afternoon session was quite a way away so a nice long ride on the picky :) love it.   The group  gave us a prayer and it work along the lines  we are angels from god sent to teach.  :-)  at the end they gave us food . Beans and sweet potato  it was yummy, this was followed  by some milky  chi. :-)

All the picky drivers all had first aid kits given :) my driver enos who is a enormous bloke built like a brick shit house. He was well pleased of having one. That's not all they got a compact first aid course too.

Hammock swinging

Up at the crack of dawn to run the well dry again. This is not looking too good.

Another full day of teaching ,and some major off road-ing  on the motorbikes to the afternoon Session.  Where I think the picky picky took off at some points,. Good fun tho.

This day did have a twist tho....  Dan and Scott ( two thirds of the leadership team ) had been arrested and detained due to a sting by the police here.  They was rounding up picky picky drivers about insure ace and licences to see if they had them,  unfortunately  the driver of the picky picky  that they was passages of, didn't have one of the above.  But few hours later they wear let free :-)

Both groups today was fun :)  and we was treated to a lovely 2 course meal in the evening.  First up was  a curry style korma without the chicken followed up by the best fruit salad I have ever had. Mummmmm. Deli ices it was.

Just to finish the evening off I was treated to a hammock swing session . They are the most relaxing thing ever. Defo going to get my self one when I'm back.

Just sleep all night in one or read my books ( that's another thing I've taken up here ... Reading books .... Hummmm )

A new experience to most...

Up bright and early,  to continue  with teaching week 2 :) topics of this week is choking , bleeding, shock and also snake bites! Some interesting story's told about snake bites , most of all it wasn't surprising  when most of them had killed many of a snake.

But first !  I come into the class and go 'GOOD MORING'  and no reply.  Right!      Time for the wake up shake up dance ! Ahhahah you will be awake now XD
Funny enough they all enjoyed it and appreciated it.

You know it's a good sign when they all remember what you taught them last week :-)

When the topic of bleeding come round, we have to show tem how to make an African version of a bandage .... This consists of two things, a triangular bandage and a sanatrey towel.  This was a new experience for most here and it brought giggles along with it too.

This was the same for all groups that day. It was a good day Woop.

muzungu price

The Dan alarm has returned with vengeance.  Flying in a 6am on the dot!    We all know what this means .... To the well we go for a session of pumping the well.  Which now we have run dry!  As much as I hate to say it a little rain shower wouldn't go a miss now.

Off to be a teacher it is now with 2 sessions back to back in the morning,  and one this afternoon . Having to lay the law down about mobile phones too. One thing I was hoping not to have to do.

At lunch I was getting supplies in the way of food.  Getting some eggs and the lady was trying to charge 13 shillings per egg.. I'm like whattt.  3 eggs for 20 shillings I thought was a good price ... Till I found out that I should have got 5 for that price!  So just as I'm white I have to pay double !

The afternoon session was a good one,  covering lots of  first aidy stuff.  And again the lovely woman's group gave us food and Lemmon grass tea.

Hippo spotting ?

Up with excitement , it's hippo spotting day!

But first lets enjoy the comfort for the three S's  before we go back to the hole in the ground...

Off we went back in the tuck tuck off to lake Victoria :)    Jumped into a boat,  and off we go.  We get more than hippos too, we see monkeys at shore, n the birds of kenya too .

We see lots of hippos up close  and personal too. It was well worth it and a great way to finish the weekend!

Now for a spot of lunch then back into the probox. ( yes I was back in the boot) . Back to ndhiw we goooooooooooo.

Today marks a good for first aid Africa, both the ministry of health and of education have given us there backing and endorsed the training we do!  This is a big step for us XD

I'm not American !

After a lie in and no dan alarm to be seen, getting up at 8 was perfect :)   Then someone else cooking breakfast, I love these weekends away.

And I don't think people will understand the happiness we all had using a flushing toilet and a warm shower XD

After dragging ourself away from the simple things that make a difference,  we descend  on the mass market of kisumu. Where there was all kinds of food and clothes. This is where we repeatedly got mistaken as Americans ... It got annoying after the 7th time! We also found out at the same time everyone here is Obama's cousin. Hahaha yeah right.

Getting asked how's winston churchill. I was saying to myself ' I dunno he's been dead over 40 years'

Then it's retreading back to the rooftop bar for a spot of Lunch before going to the national museums of Kenya, ( yes we know I don't do museums but this was different )  saw all the history of Kenya and how it has made today.   Including there huts and the animals to Kenya too :)

As it is the weekend we treated ourselves to a pizza mummmmmm.  But In order to get there, we had to experience another Kenyan transport .... The tuck tuck, it's basically a three wheeled car that has a law mower engine ... Hummm again it was A bumpy ride.

Tomorrow is hippo spotting day so tune back for more tomorrow :)

Day 6 - Weekend of mischief ..... I think not

Today marks the start of our weekend, but before we could  start we had one last session to teach. To lucky boys FC.

On the way to the session we had a round of dog vs motorbike, and I think the dog won . so there's me getting to put my new found first aid skills to use...  With multiple casualties
(There was no real life treating injures included )

Once we got to the session they was on time ( in African time that is) not uk time... So they were megaaaaa late.  Anyway after all this who har it seemed like a round of question time on a debate channel, face it guys I'm right your wrong.

Now the weekend starts here.

Kg2 went of kisumu, starting with a 3 hour ride wooop.  All 8 plus driver in a vehicle ( called a probox) that should only hold 5. So that's 3 in the boot! Yup that's where I was :)  where you get cramp every 5 min and feel every bump in the road. But it was worth the trip!!

Got to a place called the duke of breeze hotel, finally got the keys.

in each room we found a shower that had hot water + a flushing toilet . It's heaven !

Just to top it off we found their rooftop bar :)   Time for a beer me thinks!  The Africa  tusker beer was the treat tonight. Where it cost 200 shillings which works out at about £1.50, can't be moaned at really can it?

Mades a change not to be the only group of white people toooo.

Lets see what else the weekend brings

Saturday 13 July 2013

A day of vibrance including the last supper

So dan alarm went of with a role call! ( at 6 am for god sake ).

Today had signs of a good day,  with  all 3 'S's going smoothly ....   With the teaching sessions being taught in the fine Kenyan sun.

The afternoon session of teaching was full of energy  and enjoyment.  This was with a woman's group  that had 2 men in, yes that's right 2 men.... Go figure .... But we got them all doing the recovery position in tandem and shouting help so the next village could here them.!   Praise The Lord we said when getting blessed (again) with a prayer!

Lots of photos taken of all this FFA magic happening too

It was now that time to start to cook our meal  or the last supper as I call it. Thankfully nobody died

The day  was that good I was treated to a swing in the hammock :) there soooooooo bliss

The weekend (Monday and Tuesday ) is so close for us  only one session away ! Wooooo

A day at church

This is the day of revelations ,

The morning session of teaching resided in a church in the middle of the bush,  you know the day wasn't off to a good start where only  2 of the 3 picky picky drivers show up, so I end up having to double up. ( feeling a little suicidal )  sitting  on the end of this bike...

When I had made it in one piece,  we was blessed with prayer.   We had students looking through windows as we was that full! It was unreal !  After the session had a ' bumpy ride '  home.  It was time to think of  what to cook  for our round ( mine and Rebecca's ) of first aid Africa's version of master chef.

So time to rest before the dan alarm goes off and we get pumping

See you soon for the next update of sean travels Africa

This piggy went to market

Market day has arrived !!!!!!!!!
Woop where the village comes alive .  With lots of fruit :) and you can get a fruit salad  for 40 shillings (about 30p!)  and a bag of chips  for 10shillings  ( less than 10p ) Woop  so lunch was about 50 p bang you can't go wrong .

This time we started teaching with what looks like a collage  and apparently bill gates donated money to the for pcs and it's classes.

We walked in and they didn't want to interact but my the end they was jumping and smiling. Nice to have a positive outcome after a poor start.
Even threw in a shouting for help competition !

Teacher time!

Today was the day we started teaching to the community groups.

In the morning I had the pleasure of experiencing the world chi! Mandazis ! Wasn't actually that bad :) sweet tooth is required tho.  With grand tour of the city of ndwid

To get to the community group we had to travel on these things called 'picky picky' this is basically a moped that's been about a bit.  These things are  not the best considering the states of the roads, which are like dirt / stoney tracks . You think it can't get any worse.  One goes past you with 4 people on these things . Crazy people.

The group taught today  was an all woman's group which didn't speak a word of English. Ahhhhhh !!!! But the all got into the moves it was great.   All about the recovery position dance XD

Friday 12 July 2013

bus ride to ndwid!!

The bus ride of a life time, to meet up with the rest of kg2 we had to take a bus ride 1/2 way across Kenya, this  took 8 hours! With only one other stop off. This made the peeing situation interesting.

When we finally got to a the stop at homa bay, we got off the bus, where we where swarmed  apron like pigs in shit, ( taxi drivers saw £££)  and then one the the lady's on the bus that we got speaking to said she call her sisters husband to come get us then take us to ndwid. For only 100 shillings in a car that looked like it just about moved  .... This was awfully dogey.  Hummm I think not!
We managed to get a marked up taxi to take us to our new home for the next few months.
This is where the cheeky fucker of a driver though he was cleaver . We agreed a price of 1000 shillings at the start and then he tried to pull it was 1500 shillings .. With the whole I don't speak English ( well he spoke it well enough then ) so no! You get a 1000

This then made kg2 complete

The flights of all flights

So yesterday marked the start of the big adventure across Africa, where I will be arriving in Kenya (at some point)  to do something that you all know I love, which is first aid

So I made my way to the airport,

Just to set things off to a good day, I go to check in and I get told by a little woman that I have to go check in at the 'oversized' luggage section.

Then suprizeingly I don't have an issue going past security check

My flights take me on a weird travel, first of all I went to dusseldorf (in germany if you didn't know) which was a lovely 2 hour flight, in all fairness is was a ok flight,  next of all I get on a flight to Abu Dhabi after waiting a few hours, that flight was longggggg as. 7 hours in the same seat, not nice!
But I did see the mother of all sun rises at 0300 (local time)

Now I'm sat in dhabi waiting for the next flight to Kenya :) least I found a costa but the down side is its like 0700  and this will make the third time zone i have crossed!

Till next time folks
